Today Is Not Charlotte Bronte’s Birthday

 In Writing

Today is not author Charlotte Bronte’s 198th birthday, despite the Google ‘doodle’ that says it is.

Deceased persons do not have birthdays.

Rather, today is the 198th anniversary of Charlotte Bronte’s birth. Conversationally, one might also say: “Today would have been Charlotte Bronte’s 198th birthday (if she had lived 76 years longer than the oldest verified person ever).”

This might seem like a small thing but so is an apostrophe and many people don’t know how to use them either.
